The only reliable way to avoid a hangover is to drink less. Reviews of hangover remedies, including a systematic review in the BMJ (Pittler et al., 2005), have found no convincing evidence that any product prevents one. But how you drink makes a real difference.
Before you go out
- Eat a proper meal. Food slows how quickly alcohol is absorbed.
- Decide your limit in advance. It's easier than deciding at midnight.
- Arrange your ride home so driving is never an option.
While you're drinking
- Pace yourself. Your body processes alcohol at a fairly fixed rate.
- Alternate with water. One glass of water between drinks.
- Be wary of sugary mixers, which make it easy to drink faster.
Before bed and the next morning
- Drink water and have a light snack.
- Give yourself as much sleep as you can.
- Eat breakfast, rehydrate, and get some fresh air.
Where a strip fits
MindStrips Hangover Strips contain date fruit, turmeric and five more botanicals with a long history of traditional use. They're not a cure and won't change how your body processes alcohol, but they're easy to take when you don't want to swallow anything. Read more in what actually helps the morning after.
Drink responsibly.
